problem with '01 grand prix

problem with '01 grand prix

The service engine light came on the wifes grand prix. I had Autozone plug their scanner in and said the coolant was taking to long to heat up. I think the code was "128".? They said thermostat or temp. sensor. I replaced the temp. sensor. I started the car to make sure it wasn't leaking. I noticed that both fans came on right away. I know there is a sensor to turn the fans on, but could it be something else? Any ideas? Thanks a lot.
P.S. the car has 50,000 miles on it. 3.1 V-6.

The fans run if the AC is on OR if the windshield defroster is on (it activates the AC).

It could also be a stuck thermostat. The PCM 's on the 3.8's will set that code if you have a lower thermostat (185 or 165 instead of 195), or if the thermostat is stuck open.
