Is this worth doing?

I just picked up a 1978 F350 1 ton dually 2wd. Axle code is 27, and the casting says it is a Dana 70. My question is will this fit into my 1984 F250, and how much stronger is the D70 than the D61 I have under there right now? Also I am planning on changing to rear discs in the future. Is this still doable with the D70? I am aware that I wil need to either go with 4.10 in the front, or change the rears to match my 3.54 gears. Since it is a 6.9l, I figure I would be better off swapping the raers to 3.54.

the D70 is rated at almost 6,000 pounds capacity. also parts are pretty easy to get.

it should bolt riight into your truck without a problem....that 61 should have the big 3.5" tubes like the dana 70, but your ring gear on the 70 is 10.54", 35 spline 1.5 inch axles, vs. the 60's 9.75 gear and 1.31 30 spline axles, pretty big difference
