2003 Explorer electrical failure

I have a 2003 Explorer Eddie Bauer, 4.0, 4X4. Last night everything worked. This morning no power windows, gauges, radio, or anything on the dash except the heater. The power door locks, turn signals, brake lights, tail lights, and power seats (but not the memory) all work. It was in for oil change about three weeks ago so I’m pretty sure that is not the problem. There were no warnings, no wiring type smells or anything. I checked a sampling of fuses and they were OK.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Does anybody have any ideas??? Any help will be greatly appreciated. HAPPY NEW YEAR ! ! ! !

I don't have a diagram for the '03, but did you check the fuses in the power distribution box under the hood? Those items could be on a single maxifuse. Look in your owners manual and see what the various fuses supply.

Well I had it in the dealership and they said it was a problem in the insturment cluster & they have ordered a new one. I guess I'll have to wait & see if this fixes the problem.

Question Fixed?

I had the exact same problem yesterday with my 03 Eddie Bauer Explorer. Did the instrument cluster the dealership ordered fix the problem? I was at the dealership in the process of trading in my Explorer for a new 07 Mustang GT when this problem happened. Needless to say we are rethinking the purchase of any Ford! Thanks for your insight.

This sounds like what happened to my 04 Explorer 2 years ago. They checked the instrument cluster which was fine. It turns out there was a short behind the driver's side c-pillar panel. They were alerted to this by talking with Ford. Apparently it was a defect from assembly though it seemed strange it took 6 months and 10K miles to show up. But whatever they did fixed it and it's been fine since.

The new cluster took care of the problem. After about 6 months without problems I guess they resolved it. I've got close to 50,000 on it now & I'm still happy with it.
