Brake pedal gets super stiff
i have a 85 f20 with a 6.9, i have seemed to develope a problem in my brakes,
When i apply them the first time they are good but if i let up on the peddle and apply again the peddle is super stiff, i can barely press down on them. if i let the truck drive for another 1/8-1/4 of a mile i can press again and its good on the first press then stiff again on the susequent press's. When the peddle is stiff i have to really bare down on the peddle to get any stopping power.
Does anyone have any ideas where to start to look for this problem?
Thanks for your help.
Chris
A vacuum gauge is all that is required to test it.
It should carry over 20 PSI vacuum and recover after the brakes are pressed in a matter of seconds.
They are not cheap though, close to 90 dollars for the last one I bought.
You may want to check the belt on the front pulley of the alternator for tightness, that is the one that drives the vacuum pump.
but also the vac-pump is needed for the auto tranny so check them lines
to the tranny also if you got A/T they may be off or leaking
also check the rubber hose's that go to the ip
