I have a minor leak on my 1999 F-250 4x4 6 SPD PSD master cylnder. I noticed it by the wetness on the frame rail in the driver side wheel well. I cleaned everything up and it is not leaking from the brake lines and it is not losing fluid out of the reservoir at a rapid rate. Braking action seems unaffected. It is still leaking fluid - somewhere.
Not having a lot of experience with diesels I have no idea what the little "blue can" is (pressure accumulator is my guess) on the master cylnder casting is but it may be the source of the leak.

What's coming out? Brake fluid or ATF? That will tell you what's leaking. The little pressure accumulator that you speak of is the hydro-boost. They use hydraulic boost instead of vacuum to provide braking assist.

Must be brake fluid (looks like it)- how would ATF get there?

Hydro-boost it is dripping off it.
The power steering uses ATF as the fluid. They hydroboost is driven by pressure provided by the power steering pump. That's why I was asking about what's leaking. Whatever fluid is coming out will tell you what's leaking and needs to be replaced.

Thanks - now I understand - I will check the power steering pump level...
Wow, master cylinder. Be sure that is it. Might be the line coming from the power steering. I like the fact that on our trucks the power steering pump also runs the brake booster.
FYI, if you need the replacement, stay away from autozone and oreillys. If you dont want to spend the bucks to get it from the dealer, get it from NAPA. Just telling you from past experience

Thanks - I have had good luck with rockauto.com in the past. I have also used some online Ford dealers in SC to get jobber rates. It looks like an expensive piece to replace....
I will be checking all the connections from the power steering pump now.
Power steering was down about an ounce. Cannot see any leakage around the hydro-boost, brake lines, power steering pressure line or return line. I can detect minor seepage around the master cylinder near the firewall and that is about it...
Minor leaks, vibrations and electrical can drive you nuts....
