cold engine noise

Have an 04 6.0, at first start-up in the morning there is a distinct knock from the drivers side of the engine, sounds like a rod knocking. after the engine warms up, in about 5-10 min it goes away. i noticed it more after the last dealer visit which included a new flash to the computer. Is this normal noise?

Cool

Sounds to me, like you have the beginings of #8 Fuel Injector failure.
If you are above 25k Miles and this begins to appear I would bet that by 55K the engine will miss and be so noisy when cold that you will need to either have it repaired w/ $100 deductible insurance warranty or buy a set of ear protectors.

This is exactly what happened to me with my 2002 7.3 F250 and is again beginning to happen with my 2004 6.0 F250. It started at 25K miles and is much worse now at 33K. Keeping it plugged in does take the edge off, but when in the field w/o the Electric in near zero weather for 3- 4 hours it sounds like the engine is going to drop a rod.
My guess is that the dealer tech will say it is normal engine noise - but I know what my 02 & 04 vehicles were like during the first winter when below 25K and they are simply wrong.

If you do actually find a dealer that will correct the problem with out giving you the run around - I can use the help too.
