Whenever I try to get KOEO codes off my 86 F-150 I just get one continuous "BEEEEEP" off the scanner. This truck has no CEL, but the scanner is supposed to work on this year/model. Do I need someone to step on the clutch or something?
BTW its a 300 l6 manual 4x4 w/ a "rebuilt" 1bbl carb that runs bad until it gets warmed up and then gets about 8mpg combined city & hwy. I suspect a bad carb job or vacuum leak, but trouble codes would help. All plugs looked normal to maybe a little rich when I replaced them. Good compression tests wet n' dry and no oil issues. Please advise. Thanks, RC.
If you are doing the test, and have the scanner plugged in right, it sounds like you may need a new computer.
It could also be one of the computer relays that has shorted out, or dosen't work anymore.
If you are doing the function test wrong, (not stepping on clutch or brake when supposed to, If applicable etc) you should at least get a code telling you so. A code 33 or 77, operator error codes during test etc...
i would check the voltages at the various sensors, making sure you have the correct voltage on the correct wire. get a manual from your library if you dont have one. i had a problem where my computer was putting various postive voltages on differnet wires to each sensor. so i ripped out the computer/dizzy/carb and installed a duraspark 2 system, and it runs much better and i get better mileage and power.
