I AM FINALLY GOING TO BE PUTTING THE NEW ENGINE IN THE TRUCK!!! i have a question for everyone who has done this before...300 i6 with tranny attached....is it possible to put the whole thing back in the truck? before, i had the head off so the engine was not as tall...curious if anyone has actually done this.
thanks
chris
i have the rad. and the other thingy similar to rad. removed...the the grill is also gone as is the bumper...the front is basically stripped down to just the main frame (if anything, this will keep me from damaging something. i really don't wanna take the tranny back off because i had a heck of a time puttin it on the the engine as it was. it took me many tries b/c the bell housing was being stupid...i ended up getting angry and just lifting the tranny up by myself and might i add it was quite heavy...so i really don't want to remove that again...plus i don't have a tranny lift. i do have a load leveler (weight shifter crank thing). i think i am going to try it and if all else fails, ill get angry again, take off the tranny, then somehow try to lift the tranny under the truck and attempt to bolt it all together hoping it will work...any hints would be appreciated...thanks for all the help so far.

With the grill, radiator, tranny cooler, and bumper removed, I'd imagine it would fit in. If not its the hard way I guess. Tranny's aren't very light, the one I recently got, (3sp w/ OD manual) has an aluminum case, so i can lift it up by my self, but it's by no means "light". Floor jacks are great for lifting up a tranny to hook up to the engine.
I'll hopefully be pulling my 4.9 next weekend for the rebuild and tranny swap. Did you do any mods to the engine, or is it a stock replacement?
at the moment it is stock...i plan to do some mods, some of which i should have done from the start but i don't have time or money right now...i plan to in the future port and polish and put a cam in...MAYBE look into turbo eventually but not anytime soon...i thought when i do put the engine in here in a day or two, if the engine needs to go a bit higher, i could always take off the front wheels and put it on blocks just tall enough to keep the brakes off the ground...if anything, that will gain me a few inches. any other way to gain an inch or two or do you think i will need it? a question just to make sure i do this the best way, when i hook the engine to the load leveler, i need to hook it up using two of the bolts that hold the head to the block, right? if not, where do i bolt the engine to the lift? when i took it out, i had the head off already so i just used the head bolts. thanks again.

What tranny you have?? Is crossmember (trans) removed.Guy in boneyard just took out 92 300with 5 speed in one peice. Had fan off, radiator out he cut tranny crossmember with torch out she came. Grille still in truck
we pulled a 302 and AOD from a lincoln rad inplace, everything inplace, had to have the car on ramps so the tranny wouldn't hit the ground but everything came out clean.
i got it in!! horray! i have the i6 with an e40d. i had the crossmember off. it really was not that bad of a deal. i did have a load leveler which made the job possible in my opinion. i used two of the bolts that hold the head to the block to hold two of the chains and i attached the other two chains to where you would bolt the intake/exhaust (mainly for like a backup incase something happened). worked fairly well...i am pleased...now i have to finish adding the extras. thanks for your help.
