can anybody give me the distance from the center of frt cab mount to the back of the block on a small block ford installed in a 49 f1.i have the cab off of mine and was needing a point to start with.i have decided to go with the 289 hipo i got and a c4 trans. from the back were the trans mount's too will be great.
also , i know the crossmember were trans mount is will have to be took out. and new one put in. can you cut it next to the brake master cylinder and reinforce it to use stock brake pedel? thank's
Your best bet is to set the cab on the frame and fabricate the mounts that way. That's what I would do, and did with my 400 and C6 combo. Other than that, someone on here with your combo will have to give you the specs. I wish I was at your stage again, I need another project.
To your question regarding the Trans cross member. Yes you can cut the cross member and still use the original pedal/master cyl. mount. There should be a tech article for fabbing a new crossmember.
its about 1 1/2 inches from center of cab mount to back of head . If you are using side mounts for the motor its about 13 1/4 inches from center of cab mount to center of side mount . You can use the rear crossmember just need to do a little cutting and welding . I would also stick the cab on and fit everything that way , no mistakes !
thank's, that is what i was looking for. i still have the flathead in frame. it is about 2 inch's shorter then the 289 . block length.i will sit the cab back on when i get close, i took it off by myself so i could start on frame.guess i can sit it back on that way too. it might be close to same position as the back of the flathead. thank's again.
1949f1 i got the same setup in my 49 f-1 if you need anymore help. I would put the cab back on and set the frame to the ride hight and level from side to side. That should help you to set the motor in the best spot.
