I just put a new Power Steering pump on about 2 weeks ago. It has, maybe a 100 miles on it now. But it started to make a loud high pitch whistle for about a week now. It has good fluid, and is full. And also, it makes a lot of strain noise when turning the vehicle. Now, it's not a bad sound, it just seems like it's a little louder than it should be for being new. I know that new means new and not good. But, does it need time to break in still?
I put 2 different NAPA rebuilds on...they both were noisier than the ones they replaced. After a while, the high pitch toned down, and they work fine, but the noise is still there. Drives me nuts at times.
I bet that pump is used, worn and scored up inside (reman crap) if you looked inside. You would have better odds getting a good pump from a Pick N Pull or wreckers and go thru it checking inside then install a seal kit. Should it be shot inside take it back. What are the odds the trucks in the wreckers because a bad pump?
....=o&o>.....
I got mine flushed and added some limited slip additive into it and it eventually quieted down - took a couple of weeks, but the whine is pretty much gone.
