General performance

I have more of a general question.

Right now, I have a 1984 f150 with a 300 inline6. I want more power so I decided to go 351. Is it a better idea to rebuild a windsor or a cleavland??

I was planning on just putting on the basic hedders, holley or edelbrock intake and carb, camshaft and what not. I' m not looking to tear off the pavement. I just want the thing to have a good portion of power.

What do you guys think??

Thanks

The clevelands are hard to find, and I'd suggest the 351w anyway. Cheaper to build, easier to build, and will fit right in with your tranny too.

The Cleveland would be an interesting swap, but as Justin says they are hard to find (since the true 351C was only built for a few years) and due to their limited availabilty high performance parts aren't as plentiful and are more expensive as well. But it will bolt up to your transmission and motor mounts, so is a fairly straightforward installation. (I have one in my '72 F250) They came in 2 and 4 barrel versions with much bigger valves and ports on the 4 barrel...too big for a street-driven truck but with an aftermarket intake a 4-barrel carb can be installed on the more plentiful 2-barrel engine.
Not to be confused with the easy-to-find 351M which looks very similar but uses the 429-460 bellhousing and motor mount pattern. These engines are more suited to being used as boat anchor, IMHO.

If you want a little challenge and want to be different, it's an option. If you want a simpler swap with easier acessabilty to aftermarket performance parts, go with the Windsor.
