i decided to do it. i have a 96 ranger that i blew the 3.0 and now have found the 5.0 engine, aod trans, wire harness, computer and about every thing else out of the bay of a 93 mustang. i will be doing a 3" body lift also. the 3.0 is out already, trans comming out today. what i am trying to find is a template for the 1/4" plates that i have read about that would allow me to use the stock 3.0 ruber mount. this would have the two holes for the block on each end and the center would have the locater dowel hole and large hole for the mount. any one have a scan drawing or some mesurements? dont wanna put the engine in and out 10 times to get the alignment right. or how bout explorer mounts? ive seen all the adapters, all they have done is connfuse me. the dont make sence. use the adapter with the stock 5.0 mount? why? why couldnt you just drill a new hole for the stock 5.0 mount in the cross member? help please!!!
try using explorer 4.0 frame mounts. i used them with some 1/4 steel squares that i drilled grooves in so i could adjust the engine where i needed it without completly removing the engine. just had to raise it up enough to get the weight off the mounts to slide it. i used this setup to put a 392 stroker in a 87 ranger.
well i got a start up kit from total performance consisting of headers, mounts with adapters and a oil relocator. the mounts don't seem to work so well...motor sits crooked, driver side valve cover down, when set the way the instructions show. plus the engine is way to far forward. if i move the engine back to where it seems right, the mount and adapter are behind the cross member all together. i'm pissed. i shouldn't need to adapt a adapter! so i think i will be returning the mounts and maybe the headers also. passanger side dumps right center of the frame. "a little notching" my ***. i thing what im going to do is bolt back in the stock 3.0 mount and make the 1/4" plates like i was originally going to do. that way i can shim the highth with washers if needed and move the block as far back as i want. once i get it set that way i can see what these headers are going to do. chech out some of these pictures and read the captions for a little bit of whats going on in the picture. also let me have any ideas or insight you guys have.
