what do you guys think about a gas tank behind the rear axel? I have the rivets out of the last crossmember so i can get more room for the gas tank. I have found that a 1970 mustang/cougar should fit. Reason for this type of tank is that i want to run the filler out to the back of the roll pan. Any suggestion.
Excellent idea, gives some room behind the seat with fuel supply out of the cab. The later Mustang tanks, about 71/72 hold alittle more fuel than the 70 I believe. You may have to change the neck angle to have the filler come through the roll pan.
Do you think that would be the best tank for that idea? I found out that the 70 is a 22 gallon tank were as the earlier tanks a 18-20 gallon tank. the only problem i think i would run into is the tank straps. would the 70 model tank straps work as well?
I had a 28 gallon aluminum tank made for my '70, which I put behind the axle. It worked out well, except for I never was happy with the filler set-up. It also adds a little weight where it's often needed in an empty truck. There is a thread here somewhere about the Mustang tank, which would be a lot cheaper than having one made. I welded up the filler hole in the cab; you can't tell it was ever there.
