alright fellas i am going to convert my 69 f250 4x4 hiboy to power steering. i have the box and pump off of a 79 f150 4x4. and was wondering if anyone of a website with detailed step by step instructions on how to do this. thanks again fellas
Not many people use the F150 4x4 power box. I've never seen it done. Most use the 2wd power box or the 78-79 f250 4x4 box which is pretty much the same thing as the 2wd box with an extra bolt hole. As I recall the f150 4x4 box mounts outside the frame. Probably just a matter of whacking the inner fender and bolting the box to the frame. I'd recommend going with the 73 to 77 power assist steering off an f250 4x4, but it's hard to find in some areas. Some complain it wanders and leaks, but from my experience, the parts that wear out on the system are dirt cheap if you know where to buy hydraulic parts. The power assist will also turn the tires no matter what. It has way more grunt than the power steering box. The best part is everything bolts on and looks super clean. No scabbed on steering box that looks like it doesn't belong. Good luck.
I have not seen one done with a 79 F150 box but that doesn't mean it's impossible. I did a power steering swap on my 67 4x4 F250 crew using a saginaw type set -up from a mid 70's Dodge 4x4. Detailed pics are in my gallery.
