OK, I finally decided to try JC Whitney's 78 F150 Vent Window rubber gaskets. First impressions: I saved $50 on suitable replacements, and they required very little trimming to fit. I had to trim the top cornerabout a half inch and an excess piece of rubber from the molding process. My only concern is that they don't fit exactly the same as the 23yr old original rubber gaskets. They are a tighter fit. Also, am I supposed to use some kind of adhesive on the channel divider side to hold the skinny rubber piece flush with the window whannel divider? Or will the rubber settle and fit a little better after sitting with the vent window closed for a few months?
The hardest part of the whole ordeal is taking the door glass out. I had to take the rollup window out and the vent window frame is riveted to the channel divider. Pain in the rear! I also retinted the side glass while I had it out. Looks much better now!
I have a feeling that they'll probably loosen up after while, especially when its been a little toasty a few times. Look how hard windshield gaskets are when they are first put in. Hmmm maybe a few treatments of armor-all or equivalent will help things too. Im just #####-uming though, and you know what that does... Well, better get to bed.
