Lightbulb 2000 7.3L starting issues!

I started a thread in the super duty forum for this truck also.

The 7.3L in the 2000 F250 im looking at wont start, battery was dead. Stuck a battery pack on there and it turned over and wanted to start but didnt. Glow Plugs where cycled 3 times(around 12 sec each time) but still didnt start. Could it be a bad CPS or somthing worse? He said hed have the shop look at it and im going back there 2morrow to drive it.

Another question.

Right before the turbo theres a Y-pipe? Ontop of the Y-pipe is oil residue what could cause oil to migrate ontop of that pipe? It was dark out and couldnt really see the turbo so i dont know if it migrated from there or where its attached to the turbo. Any thought? Thanks

The oily residue it not uncommon. The oil is probable all over the boots on the IC pipes also. It comes from the CV being in the intake tube. The battery being dead may have a lot to do with the truck not starting. It takes a lot to get these motor started. I had one weak battery and my truck would not start. It would turn over good, but not good enough to start.

IC=intercooler...CV=crankcase vent
These motors vent the crankcase internal starting at the turbo intake air ducting from there it runs thru the intercooler into the "y" pipe. Very messy!

IC- he is referring to the intercooler and related pipes/boots.

CV- the Crankcase Vents itself into the intake, where there is a vacuum. this sucks all the oily mist out of the crank case, and into the turbo, and through the intercooler. it then goes into the engine. this is bad because there is an oily film on everything, and that can enable a boot to pop off when you are "into it". alot of people, including me, reroute this crank case vent system, (most call the crank case vent CCV, if you were to search), and i routed mine into my exhaust path. this sucks the mist out, but this time it is going through the exhaust flow (aft-muffler) and out of the tail pipe. here smoke and mist look perfectly normal, and it is possible to see the mist at idle if you look close.

Yes - there needs to be a certain ammount of voltage, in order for the injectors to fire - if you don't have enough - the motor can turn over just fine, but still not enough to "light the fires". I doubt a jumper pack would give you enough juice to get a totally dead PSD started. Get some new batteries, or get those charged up completely and give it another whirl.
