Here is funny listing for truck on E bay…he goes on n on with all details and finally you find this;<O</O<O</O
If you want the camper shell, add $2,000 to the final auction price. If you want the wheels and tires (in lieu of the factory set), add $600 to the final auction price. If you want the Programmer and Airaid filter, add $400 to the final auction price. If you want to keep the extended warranty, add $1,000 to the final auction price I guess his next statement would be; If you want chassis add $15K. If you want engine add another $10K And just in case, add another $5K and buy this rust bucket for only $60K with interest as low as 10%. Any way that’s not the reason why I posted this; I want to know where I can find good camper shells (F350, 8 feet bed). Also what is the price range (not the metal ones)? Are campers really that expensive? Thanks, VJ Courtesy for listings: www.ebay.com
expect to pay 1400-1900 for a good color-matched painted fiberglass cap with a light and venting windows (installed). Consider ARE they are the best in my view. Others are somehow more popular but based on my experiece the ERA have better latch hardward and hinges etc.
never heard of ERA, but A.R.E. is a cap mfg. i have a gemtop myself, came with truck. in '91 i bought a new fiberglass leer (brand) cap for my '88 ranger s/c shortbed. came with factory-mated paint. cost 800 bucks. sometimes you can find one used. just measure good! i bought a astro (brand) cap for a '91 chevy 3/4 ton longbed and the cap was too wide for the box, made up the difference with 1x6 lumber.
also, you might check with local dealers, you may be able to buy a cap off a traded-in truck. i came across a full-size 'glass cap last fall for 20 bucks! longbed, high roof. darn near bought it ( if for no other reason to "flip" it and make some money off it.)
