Injection Pump losing oil
Lately my 1986 6.9 has been doing OK, but my friend's 1995 7.3 is giving a lot of trouble starting. He's checked out a lot of different things, can always get it going with ether... yeah I know... but just discovered that the oil reservoir in the injection pump was bone-dry. If he fills it with oil, the engine starts. What are the possible causes of this thing losing oil? (probably not a leak since there was no drip or puddle underneath)

theres a check valve in the block right behind the hpop resivoir there could be crud stuck in it. one of the 96 and older guys may chime in more detail. i know the hpop resivour is a little differnt over the 97's im sure the check valve assymbly is the same. the valve is on the drivers side of the block all the way forward. its a 3/8" square plug holding the assymbly in place.
