i like the superchip of all the tuners. its easy to install, you pick up nice gains, i think its safer/more realible then most others and overall the best. i know a few people who have edge and their hoses blow apart all the time from it, hypertech i dont know alot about, the only person i know who tried one messed his truck up installing it and had it towed to ford and he needed a flash. as far as power, youll be happy with all the above, all of them make driving funnier.
I got thre new Hypertech for my '04 60 Excursion. The major reason was I had this unit in a '02 F-150 and they only charged $211 to swap out my old unit for the new one. I set it on the middle setting, it has three, until I installed my Banks Monster exhaust. After the exhaust was installed, I left it there; it will smoke the tires. I think it will run with my GT Mustang. I also picked up 2mpg in the city! My last trip to the coast netted 19mpg running 60 +/- through backroads of S.C. and I can't wait to see what it will do on the highway. Just for the record, the Ford dealer I use, and I use them alot with 20 PSD from 250 -550 , had 6 trucks with blown headgaskets all had the 6 packs run up to the max. Still argueing over warranty. I buy alot of diesels from them and they told me to leave the air filter alone and the cat on and a mild chip and they won't deny warranty on it. They also know I'm good for a couple trucks a year and alot of service. I put an Araid in the Ford box and the Banks Monster but only from the cat back. May do the down pipe later.
I got one '03 F-250 with 75,000 miles and no problems after a new wiring harness @ 30,000 . My trucks pull everyday and I have a F-450 and aF-550 that have never had a problem. Also I have a '99 F-350 7.3 w/ 400,000 miles that pulls 3000lbs. every day and had a trans @ 190,000 a turbo @ 90,000 and a water pump too. These trucks stand up to the task.
Isnt it unbelievable how much a tuner can do for your truck. They arent exactly fast stock and then you put a tuner on it and u can roast your tires off. I have no problem toying with those ricers in thier civics and so on. I also have a mustang and the truck will smoke it any day. i took an 01 vette with a superchip and just a downpipe. (no exhaust hooked up).
LG, I'm netting about 23mpg on the highway with my '03 FX4 CC on Stage 3 programming with my PPIII. Made a run from Arkansas to Florida and got damn near 600mi out of my 26gal tank. :thumb
I run the edge.Attitude w/ juicer. I had some hesitation problems and sounds I didn't like so I went to the shop and complained. They sent it out for a new pyrometer and when i got it back. Wholy smokes. That truck has got some sack. Now I am going to look into ladder bars to stabilize the rear end so it won't hop. Thinking about thr road tamer from air lift but not sure if I can use it with a lift?
and the extended rpm band, no way i would give that up now.
Vic, you stated some numbers for the cummins, curious if that was a manual, or auto, and if auto, were those numbers (torque) skewed by the converter, or are those real world?
and how about for the 6 ohh?
im always curious what a 03 six would put down in hipo mode.... the dynos around my are all dynojet, and do not load my truck enough for it to exceed 22lbs of boost, but i hit 32 in fith gear going up an 8% grade (thats 95mph people) on a daily basis....
by my mph numbers in the quarter, the hp calculators on the net make no sense.... my truck hits 93 in the qtr, and weighs 7900 lbs.... according to the calcs, it is making 496hp at the wheels, and 585 at the crank.
going by the e.t, it makes 523hp at the wheels, and 617hp at the crank.
seems very unlikely... (14.3 @ 93mph)
only way this thread is valid, IMHO, is if a guy had all three, on the exact same truck, and all were tested in exact conditions.
will never happen...............
instead of starting a new thread, this is for edge masters, here's my prob, asked for a set of guages for xmas,as i was running the predator, instead i got the juice platinum,so i thought what the heck, try it out, hooked it up,but not the pyro, truck seems idle a little wierd, checked for trouble codes none did the module check and came up with 2,dmi pcm pass failure and egr voltage low(guessing the erg is cause i never hooked it up)has any one had this codes or should i try and contact edge
I couldn't even watch the whole thing. That was just retarded. Who the heck does a comparison test and tell the subject which tuner they are using???? Hello, how is that UNBIASED!! Stupid, stupid, stupid. All you hear is "well, its not as smooth as the hypertech, blah blah blah!"
Bought my '06 F250 FX4 CC SB 6 weeks ago. My son-in-law sold me the truck. I had him talk to the service manager about tuners. The SM told him that they have sold many Superchip tuners for the diesels and have had very few problems. He said if you use the Tow Safe and Economy settings and stay out of the Performance tune you should have a very reliable truck for many years.
Problem is people cant resist getting into the Performance tune and running the crap out of the truck and then start to have oil leaks, blown head gaskets, turbo tubes blowing off, etc. Makes sense to me.
I have a Diablo Predator I used on the '03 F150 4.6 that I traded for my PSD and was considering selling it to buy the diesel version. Since hearing from the SM at the Ford dealer I may just go with Superchip instead. If I break my $45k truck doing something that would void my warranty my wife will !!!
I have a question for my 2006 F-150 5.4 I got the Max Energy Hypertech tuner wht is the best setting or how should I start using it for best power and economy if that is possible.
new enthusiast on the block.
I pretty much keep mine on stage two for general driving and towing and is great plenty of power. When i feel froggy stage three and its fun. Most on here say sct but what the hell we are rebels .
