Screw them in to just lightly snug (DON'T go reaf on them)

Back them both out 3 turns.
That's your starting point

Are you using a vacuum gauge to watch for smoothest running while you adjust them ?

look down your carb is it pulling fuel over at an idle if it is check float level it could be saturated with gas and starting to sink or the needle and seat could be bad letting gas leak in to your carb causing a rich condition or your choke may not be opening fully

Before adjusting fuel / air mixture screws, check for any vacuum leaks, replace any vacuum lines which are cracked, and rubber is stiff.

Then, With the engine off, turn the fuel / air mixture screws in untill the screws bottom out, do not overtighten. then back out each screw three full turns. Then with the engine run, Caution witht the cooling fan. Turn in each of the fuel / air mixture screws, 1/4 turn in (clockwise). the engine idle will smooth out when the mixture screws are closing in on the correct mixture. The mixture screws should be adjusted equally, as to eliminate one mixture screw not being further in than the other screw.

ok no i am not using a vacuum gauge i am sort of ignorant of carbs so all info is new i can take one apart and get it back together but never can get them adjusted right i will start by snugging the screws then turning both out three turns then i will post again to tell results oh and the truck is smoking white at startup and when you rev it it shakes pretty bad is this do to the plugs fouling or is their a head gasket problem that i need to address.
