My 83 F-150 w/ 300 has been having odd oil pressure problems lately. The motor doesn't make any disasterous sounds. Its full of fresh 10-40 oil so i know it isn't low.
The problem is is that sometimes the oil pressure gauge will read as if i have almost NO oil pressure, and other times just about peg the guage completely out. I know i need to put an actual mechanical guage on there to see whats what. But what could be causing this?
I would purchase a new sending unit, cheap and easy to replace. I would also clean my engine to body ground (usually back of the intake to the firewall). If you are running a constant RPM and the guage keeps fluctuating, then I would guess it is a bad ground
Unless there is a leak I completely agree...change the sending unit, its a quick easy and affordable fix. If that doesnt solve it, check the actuall gauge
