I'd kinda like to pull the stock guage cluster out. This would include the ventilation and stereo controls as well. I'm thinking a nice sheet of stainless with a set of Autometer guages would be pretty slick. I'm just wondering what to do about the ventilation portion of the dash.
Has anybody done this? Can you leave all the existing wiring? Is this too big a job for a beginner? I have a friend with a welder who has built a few cars. He let me drive a '62 car by another manufacturer. Let's just say the body is fiberglass, wink wink. Pretty nice. That's what turned me on to V-8 power!!!
The truck had it originally, but it was pulled out when the engine was changed. I want to put it back in someday. I have the piece that looks like a heater core, but not the part that goes under the hood. (Highly technical, that's me!)
hmm, i guess it could be done, but it would be kind of complicated depeneding on how good u want it to look, lots of wireing to re-do too, i would make sure i had it planned out real good before i started pulling stuff out. I tell u where i would look to get an idea tho, all the Proffesional Alcohol running Pulling trucks have done something simialar to that (or at least most of them) u could probably cruise around the net and fine some ideas to work with and maybe print off some pictures.
The easy way would be to re-wire all the guages you want. You probably just have lights now, unless your lucky and actually got guages. And the new guages will come with their appropriate sending units, so use those instead of the factory stuff. The speedo I don't know, never done that before, check with someone who does customs. They should've used a speedo before and know how it goes in.
