i just got a skyjacker 4" lift kit for my 1996 f-150. after we got off the front end, we found 6 facotry rivets that we have to remove in order to get the new bracket on. does anybody know of a good way to remove these rivets? ive tried grinding them off, drilling them off, and then punching them out. through this method, i have managed to get 4 out of the 6 rivets off, but the other 2 are stuck. does anybody have any ideas or should i just keep on trying to drill and punch them out? anything will help. thanks in advance
I remember those were a big pain in the a-- to get out when i was putting my lift on. I used about every word in the book at least three times to get those things out. The best way i could get to work wars just grinding the heads off and then punching them out. I also tried drilling, it worked, but i found it somewhat less effecive. Also, if you grind the head of the rivit off, then you might be able to get a chisel in-between the frame and braket and pry the braket off. Sounds like youve tried about every method that i know of. maybe someone else has a more efficient way to remove them. Good luck
thank you very much. i have one more question. have u ever removed the pivot bushings on the front end? do u no of any methods to remove them? also, what kind of replacements can i get? i am thinking of going with polyeurithane bushings. any help???
I grinded them down. I then tried to wedge it with a wedge and a sledge hammer. i had one or two that stuck as well, so I drilled through them a bit, then went to smacking the wedge again. It just shot off :P
With the pivot bushings, I left my stock ones in when I put the lift in because they looked to be in excellent shape. A polyurithane upgrade would be a good idea while your in there. However, im unsure how exactly to remove them. Good luck
