Well tuesday at the pick-a-part I found a 78 with all the upper chrome trim and most of the lower trim (not racetrack) trim that I needed for my truck, All this trim was in beautiful shape I was so happy, It also had very premo door panels I was going to get and was considering the grill as it was also very clean, I had a screw driver tuesday and a vice grips but figured I better come back saturday for the so I could remove the trim with the proper tools so it wouldnt be damaged, Bright and early this morn I get to the junkyard and start heading out to the truck and lo and behold its picked to death, all the coveted trim is gone, the grille is gone, the door panels are gone even the hood hinges had been scavenged, And they took all the trim off without any tools all the clips were still there even the bolted on metal ones, I was pretty disapointed, Snooze ya loose I guess, I didnt think I could remove the trim without removing the metal clips and I didnt want to damage it thats why I waited, I did find a FE a/c compressor bracket and idler assy. but the biggest wrench/socket I brought was a 9/16 so I wasnt able to grab it, I wonder if I'll lose this one too ? about 3 months ago I needed a AOD tranny and after about a dozen calls I finally found one I stopped in at the place 3 days later they had already sold it :-(
If it wasnt for bad luck I wouldnt have any luck at all
Bummer, been there before. Thankfully, in some yards there's stuff in same place as when I placed them months ago and in others, the whole yard is gone. Moral to the story : if you see it and you want/need it grab it fast.
I have a quick question for you just exactly how do you get the trim off the right way I have been keeping my eyes out for some and it would help if I knew how to take it off the right way so I don't lose it to a faster bird than me.
On each END of every piece of Moulding there is a fastener that has a nut on the end of it accessible from behind what it is mounted to.
In between these mount there are plastic clips that hold the chrome on.If you very carefully push back the part that holds the piece of chrome it will snap off.
I have a picture if you want to see it.
