My 93 F350 with 7.3 IDI saw improved fuel economy (6.9 km/ltr - empty truck at highway speed) and power by increasing the exhaust behind the y pipe to 3". Question is, how much better can it get by modifying the inlet. ie should I remove the big ugly restiction bowl in the air cleaner, or just the 2 1/2 inch plastic insert in the middle of it to open up the inlet screen on the manifold. Any other mods you might recommend. It sounds like the headers may not make that much differance from what I've read here. Thanks
Cut the soup bowl off the lid, open up the bottom of the air cleaner housing to almost as big as the intake manifold opening. Do leave the screen in the intake manifold though.
Anything you can do to increase the size of the intake opening at the front of the truck is great.
K&N filters are so so, they flow great but require a lot of service to keep them working right. In dusty conditions they need serviced every day or the dust goes right through them.
