I Hate Chevy!

After spending half an hour, on ONE friggin lugnut, I have decided, if I ever have to work on another chevy, I'm charging an ASTRONOMICAL fee to do it. the lugnut is rounded off, stuck on the wheel, and not coming off unless I cut it from the back, and replace the whole stud its on. I even offered my mom a new lugnut set to replace the old ones that are screwed, she is determined to keep the "original" crap on it. go edit figure. she's even a ford hater, and thus the infidel must suffer.

I am SICK of working on chevies. NO MORE OF THEM. I want GM to disappear off the face of the earth, and burn in the flames of hell that burn but do not consume.

Is there a point to this thread (just so I know whether or not to keep it up)...besides getting mad and masking profanity?

I can appreciate your frustration, but geez..calm down a little!

Really, I've been ticked at GM also. And it's no wonder that they are having problems. It's also no big surprise that so many are turned off to Amercian cars because of a bad experience with their vehicles, but every manufacturer has a bad 'un once in a while...even Mercedes and Rolls-Royce occasionally have ones that "get away."

I just feel a great need to blow off some steam, or possibly just drive a D10 dozer over that dang truck. sorry bout the profanity thing, it happens when I'm not happy. anyone got a few cold ones to spare? later I get to go back into that friggin thing, and change the tranny fluid and motor oil.

Btw Beast12, if you want to remove this, go ahead, I needed to vent some about this truck. I have SO MANY choice words for it I could write a book with em all. its a VERY inferior truck, lugnuts that are soft steel, all kinds of other crap thats gone wrong with the electrical system, pumps that have gone bad and been replaced when the truck was only about a week after leaving the dealers lot, I mean, I've had MORE than enough of it.

what kind of moron makes a truck you have to jack up to crawl underneath it and change oil? my trucks even with stock 14" tires has enough clearance I can slide right up under it.

Just cut the nut in at least two places 180 degrees apart with a dremel or cut off wheel and the lug nut will come right off. Just stop short of the threads.

Hate is a strong word, but in this case I believe that it is used appropriately! Although I said the same thing when removing my broncos radius arm bracket rivets! All machines can at times be treacherous.

AGREED! stop short of threads. you can't use a inch sized american tool on a metric sized nut or bolt, they tend to round them off.

Well if you ever take any vehicle to have service where they remove the wheels....make sure they start the lug nuts by hand for a few turns, preferably all the way down, before they put an air rachet to it.
I had a place repair a flat on a Nissan truck I used to have and they did exactly that, run the nuts on with an air rachet. Needless to say, when I got ready to remove that wheel later....2 of the lug nuts were seized on the studs.
It can happen to all makes.

I appreciate the advice, my mom is taking the truck to the shop tomorrow to fix it. I know myself that if I try to do it, I'm sure I'll set it ablaze or something. they'll fix that issue, and I'm just doing her oil and tranny fluid. those I've seldom EVER encountered a problem with that a 1/2" ratchet wont loosen.

I only use the 1/2 on the 15mm drain plug for the oil, the tranny is strictly 3/8 and 1/4 as I find theres mostly 1/2" bolts, and two 10mm ones holding the shift linkage to the tranny pan.

Sorry, but I don't understand how you can blame GM for the actions of a minimum wage tire changing monkey with an air ratchet. I have plenty of my own reasons why you'll never see another GM vehicle in my driveway again, but your anger needs to be directed at the actual cause of the problem, not the manufacturer.

Really. Had new tires put on the '79 a few months back, and watched in awe as the the guy actually tourqued my lugs. Promptly thanked him for doing so and tipped him $10.

I have a set of sockets called "Metwrench" They work with either ASE or metric by exerting pressure on the flat sides of the nut. Also, when those air-ratchet guys get done, I go home and re-tighten the lugnuts. I've had too many warped brake rotors from those overzealous guys.
