Fuel pump issue's.
My old truck (1988 F150 5.0/C6) crapped out this morning just as I made it into the parking lot at work. It's been running crappy intermittently for the last couple of day's. I couldn't give it more than 1/4 throttle or it would start to stumble. I tried to start it once - it died, the high pressure fuel pump on the frame rail was not coming on to prime the system. After a few tries it came on. It's coming and going now, maybe my fuel pump relay(s) are taking a dump? I checked all the connections at the relays and the pump. I don't see any bad spot's in the wires and the connector at the pump is nice and clean. Should I try some new relay's first and then spring for a pump if it doesn't work or is there something else I should look at first? The pump sounds ok when I cycle it...The relay's don't sound right though...I can usually hear the first one energize but when it doesn't prime I can hardly hear that relay at all. :smt102

I would try the relay since there cheap, yet what i have found is that when the supply pump does not give enough gas to the high pressure pump it has to work harded, in turn heating the relay and causing it to stop. Letting it cool causes it to work again. The tip off is that you can't go past 1/4 throttle which points to supply pump issue. If it was just a relay, it would stall out. Same for high pressure pump.
