Just got a donor late 80's F150 with a functioning fuel injected 5.0 Liter and manual Transmission in trade for an 86 chevy pickup I've been trying to get rid of for about 7 months!!! I had a 96 F150 with a similar 5.0 liter and absolutely loved it. So Far Ive got about $700 total invested in my 49, so far I have a solid cab and doors, frame, hood, fiberglass upper and lower fenders, and running boards (new paid local body shop $400 to take them off his hands after he got stuck with them) and soon a much newer drive train. Income tax time is coming and I'm hoping for a big refund, can you say IFS??? Happy holidays everyone!!!!!
Congrats on the parts.Every little bit helps.A friend got me M11 spinndles for 35 bucks for the pair and another friend is giving me fairly new rotors, calibers and mounting brackets for free.
Yeah so far I've been accumulating parts cheaply, but theres a lot of work to be done before this thing hits the road, and a lot more parts to find. The odds and end are where the cost factor on this one is going to snowball, I've been pretty lucky finding a good starter truck with a title for as little $$$ as I've put out so far.
It's actualy not to terribly expensive to build a truck if you know a lot of people and you don't mind pulling your own parts at the bone yard and cleaning them up. I have 1000 tied up in my 55 so far. I have a 55 F100 that has a very solid cab and front clip. I have a realy straight bed that I pirated off of a 72 step side F100 which also gave up a 9 inch rear end with 3.70 gears. I also bought a TBI small block, and a 5 speed transmision. I definately have a lonnnng way to go, but I think the magor key is patience in parts scrounging as well as in the actual building of your truck.
Doc
That is pretty Cheap so far, What I do Is have 3 or 4 donors I have collected from surrounding Farmers. lol. I have not had to buy a new part yet for my 50, Except Rubber.
