Weird starting problem

I went to start my truck today and when I turned the ignition to the on position to initiate the "wait to start" light it as well as the the battery icon and the water in fuel lamp began rapidly flashing and I could hear a relay somewhere under the dash chattering. After awhile (many attemps turning the key on and off) it finally stopped chatering and allowed it to start. When this was happening the engine turned over at normal speed but wouldn't start. then it started normally a few times and then it did the same thing again for several attemps. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

The truck is a 1999 7.3 PSD F350

No, but I think I would drain the fuel filter into a jar and see what came out to see if it had water in it or not. If it does you will nees to drain it until you don't. You would have to turn the key to the wait to start after each drain to fill it back up and try again.

Welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts 1brooster.

Have the batteries load tested. Weak batteries can cause all kinds of funky symptoms like that on these trucks.

Thanks cookie88, I checked my batteries and found a weak cell. Bought a couple of optimas and the problem is resolved.
