hot trans temps

i have a 2000 F-250 Crew cab short box and i installed a set of guages and i found out my tranny is running around 210-225 that seems high to me. one of my friends has the auto enginuity scanner and the coumputer is seeing the tranny temp at 150 i dont know what one to believe i have a set of autometer guages and i also have a hypermax chip that is a big difference in temps. has anyone had this happen?
thanks for the help

maybe your temperature probe or wiring is faulty. i would contact the retailer you bought them from, usually they will be happy to fix it, especially if you are a repeat and future buyer.

i'm not too sure with the workings of them, because i just got mine yesterday and have yet to install the sender. my guess is that your connection is loose or dirty, or the temperature probe is gone bad. my guess is that this is similar to a broken pyrometer probe, which shows EGT's at an impossible 1800-2000*.

Merry Christmas,
Kris

Where are you measuring the temp? If you are in the pan or the test port, then that is too high. If you in the line to the cooler that isn't hot at all. Wait until you see 300°F!
I don't like the sender in the cooler line because that temp can spike reall high, and there is nothing you can do about it. What matters is the internal temperature of the trans, not what the cooler is seeing. If the cooler is doing it's job the trans won't see those hot temps.
The scanner is reading the sender that the PCM uses. It is on the solenoid body inside the pan.

you should not be running anywhere near those temps if you are empty, even if it is very hot outside... sounds like your guage might be reading wrong... i would second strokin's reccomendation and call the guys you got them from... sounds like you might have a bad temp sender...

that seemed high to mee too i just dont know how accurate the auto enginuity is. i agree it shouldnt be that hot when the temp outside is in the teens. im just wondering if my bypass valve is stuck open so the fluid doesnt even get to the cooler. the sender is in the test port in the tranny not the line. i ordered the tru cool max from dieselsite and will see if that changes the temps at all, if it doesnt i know i have a faulty guage. im thinking thats what it is because of the couputer seing 150, but i dont know were it gets its reading from. i hope i dont have to take my guages apart because of a bad guage.

Are the temps you posted when you are driving around town or stop and go traffic? I saw temps that high when I was driving in town quite a few time before I installed the Trucool. After install, i haven't seen temps above 150 empty and 180 towing the trailer. I think everything is setup proper, no problem with gauges. Once you install the cooler you will notice a huge difference in temp. I also installed mine inline with the stock cooler. The bypass on mine I think starts to open around ~140, at least in this winter my tranny temp hasn't gone above 145-150.

Again Merry Christmas to all, and to all more mods to come....

how did you install them inline is there enough room? i see those temps on the freeway but closer to 225 around town. dont forget some days it is below zero here and i dont think getting that hot is normal when it is that cold out. the cooler might also be plugged. if the tru cool doesnt work im thinking it is either the guage or the bypass valve that would be nice if i could install them inline. do you have any pics or writeups on how to do this
thanks

I don't have any pics, but here is what I did: disconnect the rubber return line from the cooler to the hard lines. Then took the outlet of the cooler, inserted the adapter that came with the kit, hooked it up to the after market cooler, other line from the cooler I just clamped onto the return hard line where I remove the stock rubber hose from. Made it a lot easier than trying to cut the hose and put inserts in. So this way I only used one adapter out of the kit. Also, I had to mount my cooler twice as the first time it looked good where it was at, but when I put the grill back on, the ford logo and runners covered a majority of the cooler. So I put it lower as to get the most airflow possible.

did you have to take the ac cooler out or did you just put the trans cooler in front of it

If/when you remove the front grill, there are two pillars that go top to bottom behind it. The pillars and frame work there of are made of fiber glass or the like, I drilled and mounted the cooler there. So it is infront of the ac cooler.

From underneath the truck there are two rubber lines that connect the hardlines from the transmission to the stock cooler. I traced the back line of the two, which is the return, pulled the hose off that line, ran it towards the front, put the coupler in to make it reach the far side of the Trucool, then the second section reached the hard line from where I mounted it. If you'd like, tomorrow I will go out and snap a picture real quick.

thanks that would help alot. i would love to run them inline but i have a feeling that my stock cooler is partially plugged the truck has almost 200k on it and i wouldnt get the full benefit of the tru cool. i dont do any really heavy towing so im not sure i even need them inline but the cooler the better.
thanks cangim
