i noticed on my freinds 73 dodge pickup, that one side of the exuast puts out a ton of pressure, and noise, and the other side seems a little more average, or at least quit a bit tamer than the other.
we checked the heat riser valve, and for exaust leaks, and came up ok.
is this an indication of something bad, it dont sound like it misses, but timing is a little advanced... but???
Any ideas of what might cause this, should i even care about how my freinds truck (im sorry did i call that thing a truck i meant "dodge") runs?
thanks
-Sam
Sam, You might want to take that question over to another web site, this one is reserved for Ford questions only. :-)

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
sorry to bring this question here, but ive never seen a dodge site on the net, at least not like this.
its just an interesting problem and i figured it would be a general non vehicle make specific question. ive been helped here many times befor. do you have any for site suggestions?
if it makes you feel any better we can pretend its a 73 ford f250 with a 360 and a c-6?
i feel guilty not having an explaination for the way my bosses truck runs.
sorry guys
-Sam
Possibilities include excessive blow-by past the rings on one side, but would be obvious in other ways around the pcv system. Blown head gasket might be the cause, but a compression test would reveal that as would mist/steam in the radiator. Could also be a muffler obstruction (if a glass pack). Bad plug wires or connections that keep plugs from firing on a cylinder or two on that bank, or fouled plugs, etc, etc.....
Or you could make up some outrageous story and tell him its a symptom unique to dodges
If the engine checks out "ok", and there is no leaks in the exhaust system, I recommend an H-pipe or X-pipe type set up. An h-pipe is a short piece of pipe that connects the 2 seperate pipes. This balances exhaust pressure for increased HP, longer engine life, balanced back pressure at the heads, and better sound too. I looked into having one fabricated for my truck at a very reputable exhaust shop where I live. The guy there said to get maximum results, it needs to be installed about 6-8 inches after the headers or exhaust manifolds. OF COURSE THE BEST SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM IS TO BUY A FORD!!!!!!!

Sam, You are correct, there is No other site like this one. Maybe you could have posted that you were near your friends truck.
just thought I'd offer the suggestion so the list owner didn't bust your chops, he bleeds blue. Maybe a good search engine could find some kind of site for you.:-)

Someone has a collapsed baffle in their muffler. The exhaust gas port under the manifold is probably picking up the slack. This is a dangerous situation which could result in a violent fire and/or explosion, potentially! Simply disconnect the muffler on that side and see if it alleviates the symptom.
