Does anyone know what kind of carb goes on a 65 390 in a thunderbird. I was just wondering if the trucks used the same carbuerator. I don't know much about this it is for a friend and I told him I would look around for one for him. If anyone knows what I am talking about info would be helpful of if anybody has one in good shape that would be better.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Dec-01 AT 06:59 PM (EST)]As far as I know ALL Ford related 4-bbl Carbs fit.
The bolt pattern should be the same.
The difference on the Carb itself would be in the Kickdown linkage on an Automatic vs Standard tranny not needing one.
The choke mechanism ,Vacuum vs electric.
Accelerator linkage as Rod or Cable actuated.
Now, aftermarket carbs. That's a different story.
You would have to get the applicable Design for a Holley,Carter, or get the adapter plate.

The factory original carburetor for a ' 65 390 Thunderbird engine was an Autolite 4v, with vacuum secondaries, automatic choke, around 600 cfm, not sure if the '65 Bird used a linkage from the carb to the trans kickdown, or if it used a separate lever/rod off the lower end of the throttle linkage like '65-'66 Mustangs did.
Looking at the carb-drivers side front edge it should have a 1.12 stamped into the casting.
