Hey, I have an f450 with 4.88's and I have a friend with an F350 dually with 4.10's. I wanted to swap to 4.10's and he wants to swap to 4.88's. Both trucks have Dana 60 fronts and dana 80 rears. The 450 has the larger diameter bolt pattern for the wheels and larger brakes of course. Are these diffs swappable? I believe on the dana 60 fronts that we can simply swap the dually hubs and spindles...is this correct?
I know that the dana 80 in an F450 is narrower than the 350 but I'm not sure if the width is caused by the differences in hubs or if the actually housing is different? I know we'd have to swap the outer hubs and caliper mounts because of the difference in wheels/brakes. Are there any issues that would keep us from doing this swap?
It seems like a huge waste of time and money for both of us to have to pull our ring and pinions out and pay to have them set-up when they are already set-up just in the wrong trucks!
You are SOL the Dana 80 used in the F-450 is a heavy duty version the parts are different. Why would you want 4:10s in a F-450 ya you are from Alberta where the roads are flat but 4:10s will make the truck really gutless.

4.10 will make my truck gutless? I had an F250 with 3.73 and I had no problem with a load over the rated weight of 20,000 Lbs so I think 4.10's will be just fine with 22,000.
Anyway, thanls for the info guys! At least we can swap the dana 60 stuff and save setting up to sets of gears anyway!
