Trailer brake contoller

What is the best way to add a trailer brake on an 2003 F-350?
If I understand correctly, there is a connector somewhere in the dash.
Should I buy a controller to connect into this factory connector? or use the one I have?
Has anyone connected the trailer brake with this connector?
Can you give me any advice?

I'm assuming you have the tow package on your truck. It comes with a connector pre-wired from the factory.
It's tucked up somewhere behind the dash on the drivers side.
As far as I know all modern trailer brake units are plug and play. I use Prodigy and it works well for me, I'm sure others are good as well.

Here's where I mounted my Prodigy (model 90185) on my 2004 F350
with tow package and Ford supplied harness kit - wire up the controller
to the harness, and it plugs into the under-dash connector.

custom panel replaces the ashtray/bag hook:

Black350, that's interesting. Did you take out the garbage bag panel and make a new insert for the Prodigy? It looks like a nice clean installation.
I mounted mine just to the left of your in that indentation and used the factory hanger that came with the unit. Not any better just less work for me.
Merry Christmas

Hi Pony Power,

Yes, just some 1/8" MRF board. Traced the rough shape out and then
dremmel'd the edges. Glued some thicker wood behind for the mount
holes and top lip retension and fabricated a small aluminium bracket
to hold the prodigy holder in place - I can pull out the controller easily
by releasing the clips.

I had considered mounting it on the kick panel (to the left), but just couldn't
bring myself to drill any holes there.

Cheers, and Seasons Greetings!
