My three speed colomn shifter just died in my 78 (power steering). The shifter itself moves but there is no shifting. The ford dealer said that I can take the column apart and they should be able to get me the part. Wondering If I should just try to find another column?
where would I get one? Any ideas?
There is a metal casting that the shift lever connects to.
Its probally cracked...Mine was. See if he (dealer) can get the part ...If Not you have to find a donor column
I replaced mine without knowing what to expect. It came apart just fine.. BUT it would of been nice to have an extra pair of hands to get the spring loaded thing back to gether.
Oft,
Your Three in the Tree, with power sterring, is one of the hardest columns to find. Repair it, or change the entire system to non power steering. It's a pretty easy choice.

is there ANY way you could post or email me a picture of what the bottom end of your column looks like? i've been trying to convert my non-power column to power steering for a while now.
in my neck of the woods, it's tough to find a good non-power column, much less a power one.
Rusty,
I've only heard tell of such a beast. In my opinion, I always thought they were mythical. That means fictional for you normal Truck drivin types.
