I am Overhaulin a 351 m for my 79' bronco and i ran into a problem with my main bearings. the thrust bearing is to narrow and wont fit over the saddle on the block. the parts stors all tell me that the numbers are right. any sugg.
The 351M/400 motors switched main bearing types around 1977 when they came out with the D7TE casting blocks. Most places list 2 sets of main bearings, 1 for 76 and earlier and 1 for 77 and later. If the engine has been swapped in your truck then maybe you have an earlier block casting or maybe your parts guy doesn't have the numbers for the later style bearings. I'd try another parts store.
