I have a '94 E-350 with a 7.3. This last week it was cold out 10f. The truck started to run really rough with a really loud engine Knock, (sounded like a rod was going to blow at any second) This was after it was driven for about 40 miles. It was parked at the house for a few hours and I restarted it no noise untill I hit the gas. It was also blowing alot of smoke out the tail pipe. So we decided to take it to a shop and have it looked at. Well on the way about 20 miles, at a stop light the motor stopped shaking and smoking, and ran like a brand new truck. So we parked it in the shop over the weekend thinking maybe it was starting to gell up, (added some power service to the fuel) And the truck ran fine untill today when the noise came back for awhile then went away again, the temp outside is not bad at all. Any help is appreciated
Probably a bad injector firing early, makes a scarey lower end knock. Next time it happens loosen the injector line nuts1/2 turn/listen/then tighten one at a time, if the noise goes away then that would/could be the bad injector.
