Hello, I have searched the forum to get information and I know that when a new enging is installed, one should set initial timing. I have read manuals times over, and have tried to set the timing. Problem is I can'not turn the dist. when the bolt is totally loosend up. I put the dist. in the engine couple years back, and truck mosltly sat. (build new house, etc.) Now getting the truck tuned. I checked the timing and reads 10 btdc. Althought I did not know about the SPOUT to disconnect. I will find it, (couldnt before) and do it again. However I cant turn the Dist. I even broke off a cooling or casting fin on the side w/ a lg. channel lock pliers. Something is not right, I have rebuilt many older engines and done distributors in and out alot w/ no problem I think is is froze-up or corroded.
Should I try to lube up the base, and or try to pull it up, or little bit back out and go from there. I ask because I pulled the codes, and all seems fine, but have some lag at time when driving. Want to get it on and correct.
Anyone else had this stuck problem?
I would line up all of the timing marks and then try to pull the distributor out completely and work with it that way. If it is running then you know the shaft is turning properly but the housing may have seized to the block some. The other option is to leave it alone if everything is running fine and you don't have any symptoms.
Thanks, I will try tonight to line up #1 cylinder and timing mark TDC. and pull up the dist. I still think its not right-on for timing by the way it drives. I think this my next step to do. I have replaced alot of other stuff to get here. And have a good scanner to help me each step. I have a fish house to pull out to the lake this weekend and would like to finally get this truck going and get better gas mileage.
