Steering u-joint

Hey there. I have posted a question about this before. I have a new joint for the steering shaft, (power steering), and cannot remove the old shaft from the old joint. Does anyone have any ideas? It seems to be on very tight. No screws to undo, except where it rebolts to the pump on one end and one bolt to reattach to the bottom of the steering wheel. I have had this in a vice all day, and cannot break it free. Anyone ever replaced just the u-joint? What/how did you do it? Thanks for any words of wisdom. Blair

On my 79 F250 parts truck the ujoint is a non servicable part I beleive. It looks like it is almost part of the shaft. Just for some info, I bought a 79 basket case so I could do the disk brake and powersteering upgrades and I ended up using the shaft out of my 74 highboy which has a replaceable joint in it like a drive shaft does. Does yours look like the bearing cups are staked in instead of held in place with c clips? You may have to buy a new shaft if your joint is worn out. sorry for the bad news but someone else may have an idea to fix you up easier. Greg NE

Are you talking about the u-joint for the tilt column?
