If I were to put a 460 in my 79 f150 4x4 Would I need a body lift? I have Factory a/c (has the big black box behind battery on firewall) and a c6 auto. Will any of the swap headers on the market fit or will I need some truck manifolds? I will probably use factory motor mounts from lmc. Is it a tight fit between the ac box and the valvecover, exhaust or head? Do you need specific valvecovers if it is a close fit? Do all of L&Ls headers exit through the fender well? Does that mean I have to cut my plastic innerfender? Does it subject the header to damage from debris flying off of my tires?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Dec-01 AT 03:21 AM (EST)]You will not need a body lift. Should fit fine unless your front coil springs are saging badly and remember the 460 weighs a little more. Make sure you use the rear oil sump pan so if you bottom out your suspension it will not hit the axle. L&L has headers for the 460 that do not exit the fenderwell. You shouldn't have to worry about fly debri. They are really heavy duty and are well worth the extra money. You do not have to trim the plastic inner fender, but you will have to trim the metal inner fender well alittle so the headers fit through. How much are the LMC motor mounts? If you are replacing a 351m/400m L&L has them for about 110 bucks with a lifetime garentee. You can use the existing motor mount towers.
I don't know if the LMC mounts will work as they are for a 2wd. I used L&L mounts and they ripped apart after 1.5 years in there. I'm currently looking for a set of mounts so I can put the motor back in. The valve covers clear the box just fine as the 460 and 400 are almost the same size. Truck manifolds work fine. I bought a set when I did this same conversion. I also used the front sump pan. My truck is lifted 4 inches and has no clearance problems. If your truck isn't lifted, you should get the rear sump pan. I also have a set of shortie L&L headers that dump in the same spot as truck manifolds.
I found another company that makes conversion mounts that should be better than L&L's.I also have a broken L&L mount and they won't warranty it becauce I don't have the reciept after 8 years.Performance Unlimited is the name of the company and there web address ishttp://performanceunlimited.com/customproducts/enginemount.html

THANK YOU greenhighboy!!!!!!!1:7 I've been driving myself nuts trying to find that web site. Tried searching the archives here and couldn't find the post with the web address. I got the same thing from L&L, no reciept no warranty. Again, Thank You.
I've always used 1969 Ford 390 motormounts into the stock towers, for this swap, I used the stock manifolds. This is the best and easyist swap ever!! it all fits like the factory designed it that way.
Will my air conditioner compressor mount work? IF not should I buy l&l's kit? I also heard that if you use one pulley related l&l product you had to use all of them, because nothing would be aligned properly.
No Im still figuring out which parts to order. I am planning my dream if your asking why I want to do a engine swap. Yes I know I am getting ahead of myself. Thanks for the manual pages they're helpful.
