Unhappy Motor stops running.

Hello from South Carolina. Truck is a 2002 f250 4x4 cc, 7.3PSD with 39000 mile on it. Going down road the other day and truck died like some one shot it. Looked at the DTC codes and had two, P0603 ( ICM, KAM ERROR ) AND P0340 ( CPS ) OPEN OR SHORTED.After letting the truck sit for 30 to 45 min it started and ran for about 4 miles then died again.I cleared the codes with the DTC reader waited for an hour and it started, got it back to my drive way and it died again. Looked at the codes and had one, it was the P0603 and that was it. It will crank after sitting for a while ( may be the cooling down ) then idle for about five min then shut down. I took the batteries out cleaned the post and connections had them checked at a local starter repair facility and they were good. ( checked under load). I have read where Ford now includes the CPS in the P0603 code so with everything I've seen this sounds like a Camshaft Position Sensor gone bad. What do you think? guffcatmcguffin

Indicative of a CPS failure.

Yep, CPS. But odd (to me) that it's happening at only 39k.
Replace that and you should be alright. You can get it fron an International dealer far cheaper than Ford. Even if it isn't the problem, keep it and a 10mm wrench in your glove box. (yeah, 10mm I think..)

You are so right! Picked one up today at the International dealer for 103.00 tax included. Mine was a little hard to get out but the new one slipped in with no problem. So far so good the truck is running now. But I'm wondering, everyone has been trying to figure out why these things fail like they do. Could it be that the material it's made from swells over time from the heat and causes something to crack like a solder contact inside. I did not think I was going to get it out with out breaking it but it finally came.
I guess some one is wondering why I did not take it back to the dealer sense it's under waranty.Well 100.00 to tow it there plus 100.00 deductable.

THANKS TO FTE AND EVERYONE WHO POST INFO ON THIS SIGHT.IT WAS A VERY BIG HELP.

Y'all have a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
