help with cruise control

I'm trying to get some info for my dad. He's trying to diagnose a problem with his cruise. He has a manual for his 1991 F150, but the wiring in the manual is completely different from his. It shows the cruise in the steering wheel. His is the kind that hangs on a stick. The wiring colors are different. Anyone have any help to give?

My dad thinks it's an aftermarket type, but it was on the truck when he bought it new from the Ford dealer. His only indication it may be aftermarket is the fact that it is not shown in the manual.
