'77 hiboy, 400, at, d44 front, and the steering ram leaks. was looking at my NPD catalog and found a seal kit, power steering cylinder, part # f-3a764-2. says for 74-77 f250 4x4, w/ bendix control valve. is this what i'm looking for to fix my leaks
Before you do that, you might try Lucas Oil Power Steering Stop Leak. My 74 leaked for 15 years before I put the stop leak in it. It hasn't leaked for over three years now.....
i did try the lucas oil, worked on my ranger a few years ago, but this one leaks too much, didnt help any. dont really want to buy a new cylinder. has anyone used this kit, was wondering how difficult the install is. thanks, neb
replacing the seal should be easy . I've replaced many on pumps and pistons for other applications . make sure the rod is smooth and cleaned of all burrs. sand with a fine micron paper , also coat with a silcon grease before sliding over the new seal. Now , I need this also and could not find a seal kit anywhere . 20 bucks is better than 300 . where can I get this catalog you found the kit in .
thanks Jack.
go to www.npdlink.com , you can order a catalog online, or call 1 800 368 6451 or 1 800 874 7595. they have a few different catalogs, ask for the 1948-1998 ford truck one. they have a lot of stuff, i've haven't ordered from them yet, though. the seal kit is $38.33. i thought www.lmctruck.com catalog had a similar kit but i cant find it now, i might have been mistaken.
