Ranger engine compartment isnt intended for a V8. The days of the Ranger and Explorer sharing a platform are long gone. Explorer uses IRS and has a wider frame and body that allow for the larger motor. If I were to change anything with the Ranger powertrain it would be stronger clutches for the manuals and more torque out of the 4.0L and a little more HP wouldnt hurt either considering how much the Tacoma and Frontier have out of smaller V6s. about another 30-40 hp and 40 lb.-ft. of torque with about another 5 mpg and I would be one happy camper. The Ranger with the 4.0L is extremely quick for a truck and I have yet to find a normal full size that can outrun my 4.0L 5spd. manual Ranger. I just drag raced a friend of mine last night and he has a 2005 F150 STX supercab with the 5.5' bed and 4.6L V8 and I wasted him so bad it wasnt even funny.
The Ranger is a sales numbers workhorse for Ford, designed to be cranked out fast and cheap and sold in large numbers and a limited V-8 version would not fit that strategy, just my opinion.
Yea I really really wish they would come out with the 4 door ranger in the states, I would be all over that, it would probably be priced around 30k+ though
