Recordable CD's

What type/brand of recordable CD do you use or recomend?

I bought a stack of Hypermedia CD-R Recordable 80 Min/700 MB Multi Speed 48X discs, and have had some so-so luck with them.

Maybe it's iTunes, but it takes 4 to 5 discs to properly burn one CD.

Sometimes I'll successfully burn a CD, then try to burn the exact same song list and run into problems.

Is this an iTunes problem, CD burner problem, or a disc problem?

Anyone else have these issues? And who makes a good CD disc?

Thanks for your input.

I use numerous brands.
Memorex
Sony
TDK
Maxell
and Generic ones.

I find the Maxell & TDK to be great.

I heard Sony markets the better one.

My neds are not on a professional scale

I was NEVER able to burn a cd from itunes until I bought a new burner. Never had a problem since. I use Staples own brand of CD's.

Wish I could replace my burner, but it's integrated into my Sony Vaio laptop.

Maybe it's a good burner; I just don't know.

Just for kicks, try burning a data CD. That should tell you whether it's the iTunes software, or burner/disc related. I don't think you need extra software to burn a data CD from XP, but I can't tell you how to do it off the top of my head.

I think I have enough presents (coasters) to give to my family members, on both sides of the family tree.

john112deere, Is there a difference between a "data CD" and the ones I use?

I would try downloading the latest updates to whatever software you are using for burning. I find that that usually fixes any "coaster making" problems.

No, it is the type of files you are putting on the CD. Any files on your computer can be burned to a CD (provided they fit), but the disc can only be read by computers (not your home stereo).
This site seems to have pretty good instructions http://kb.iu.edu/data/akvi.html and if I'm remembering correctly, XP makes it pretty easy. Doing this eliminates the iTunes software from the equation; if the problem still exists then you know that it's either the burner, the discs, or Windows (i.e. the driver for the burner).

Desktop pc. . . .
Verbatim CDs.
Maxell CDs.
Nero Burning Rom. I haven't made a coaster since switching to these items.

Sony Vaio Laptop, same deal. Nero Burning Rom. I don't mess with the stuff in XP.

My old system would tell me to insert a different CD often, but if I ejected and inserted the same CD again it would be fine.

I have had good luck with maxell. I don't know if Roxio Toast is available for Windows, but it is the best burning software for Mac....
