Transmission help needed.

4 months ago i purchased a 1989 Aerostar 3.0. Its an automatic Tranny with about 100k after rebuild A few days ago, I got in the van to go to work. It was about 30F outside. After allowing the van to warm up, I shifted into reverse with no immediate response. After about 30 seconds, the transmission engaged and i was in reverse. Then when i shifted to Drive, again, no response. After a short wait, the tranny engaged. It was a little sluggish pulling itself together though. After a couple of miles, everything was fine. This has been going on now for a few days and is no doubtedly getting worse. Today I noticed this was becoming consistant and it feels as though the OD is reved higher than it should but the rpms appear normal. I dont know what to do. I cant afford a tranny job right now. Does anyone have some suggestion ? The trans fluid looks good, I run Amsoil Synthetic, thats all thats ever been run through this rebuild. Its now taking a lot longer to engage (forward & reverse) and a lot more effort. Please help. Could this be a cold weather issue ? It wasnt happening during mild temps.

Is fluid level OK? If you're low on fluid, it'll do that.

If that trans works better and better as it warms, copper is probably right again. It is quite involved to check fluid level in any automatic. follow directions, get trans good and warm, driving 20 miles, check with vehicle level, do not overfill. add fluid small amounts at a time.

Welcome!

Along with checking the fluid level, I would crawl under the passenger side and pull the vacuum hose off of the modulator and see if it is leaking. Common Aero problem, espeically after 100k mi.

I just replaced the modulator only to find out the hose was cracked and leaking. Poor location for the modulator and hose right above the converter.
