Hey FTE Gang; Recently, I bought an after-market ignition module for my '79. The old one was fine, (so I thought), I bought the new one so I would have a known-good spare to survive the EMP waves of WWIII that will destroy all unshielded semiconductor-based electronics.
As it turned out, the new module makes the truck work so much better so there must have been something wrong with the orig part that caused issues like rough idle after engine gets hot. (Thought it was heat-riser/carb problem, huh) It idles better, starts better, even sounds different.
So not much sense in storing a module that's defective, guess I should buy another plus a couple voltage regulators. A coil, solenoid, and pickup would be a good idea too.
Check your module against a known-good part, you just might find the unit flaky.
SeeYa, Happy Holidays
Michelle
You might think I am crazy, but I would put the old module back on one more time, to see if the problems you are describing return. There is the possibility it could have been a connection problem.
The module may be bad, but I have done the swap thing before, with side by side vehicles and machinery, take one piece out and swap it with the other vehicle or machine. What leaves me scratching my head sometimes is when I am done, both vehicles are running good, and I haven't installed any new parts, just swapped the originals around.
You-know Frank?, you might be right, definitely not crazy. These mods are flaky anyway but thinking what you said, I remember that the grease that the factory put in the conn was hardened and turning green, likely from the brass corroding. Installing the new one, I cleaned the conn best I could and loaded it with dialectric compound.
I haven't thrown the old one away, just maybe I will clean it up and try it again.

I have a problem with my 1991 F-150 no ignition and no fuel pump activation. I replaced the ignition module then the destributor still cant receive any spark to plugs or power to the fuel pump ant one out there has a ignition schematic for this vehicle ignition system,

Pull the codes out of the computer and see if it says any of the distributor signals are missing. Here's a schematic for a 5.0 and a 5.8 v8.
