Question Major problems

I purchest my first diesel about 6 months ago. I have resently had some problems with it and am looking for some help. The problems started with sputtering between 1200-1500 RPM. Now it has alot more problems. It takes about 5 trys to get it started in the morning, I am burring up coolant, their is no visible leaks anywhere. Last month it started acting funky, when I put the truck in reverse it stalls out. My heater only works every now and then, when I am driving down the road with the heater on, it will blow cold air, and then the temp well spike for about 2 sec and then it will run normal. I have changed the thermostat 3 times already. and the last thing is every now and then when I turn the truck off, every light in the cab will turn on and off three times and the door locks will cycle as well. If there is any on out their that has any idea where to start please let me know. thank you for your time.

Your fluctuating temperature is consistant with a loss of coolant. You're getting air bubbles in the cooling system that is causing the thermostat to stay closed too long and the heater to be cold. You'll need to address the coolant loss, which could be an internal leak at the timing cover or gasket, the head gaskets, or a cracked block or head. Are you seeing coolant in the oil or fuel in the coolant?

The lights and locks acting up could be a problem with the GEM module on the back of the fuse box, or with an aftermarket anti-theft system, if you have one.

Does the engine stall every time you engage reverse, or only under certain conditions?

Welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts 99'Seargent.

Have you had the truck scanned for codes? That should at least point you in the right direction.

For the Spuddering or Missing you might have the wrong oil in the truck!! Make sure it's C-I4 Rated!!
