03 - Does anyone know IF 2002 Crossbars will fit a 2003 EB Expedition - Dealer doesn't know and listings at the "fordaccessories.com" didn't cover 2003. See what I'm trying to do at: http://www.netcore.us/hamsrus/yaesu/...TION/exp98.jpg - I need to add a second antenna platform (Amateur Radio Emergency Services usage) and need 2 of the "back" crossbars. :-) Thanks.. Tom
I originally asked IF 2002 Crossbars would fit on the 2003 tracks. the first reply was they won't - the second reply was 97-2002 WILL work (on my 2003 expedition).
Checking in.. 2002 crossbar on 2003 Exp. yes? no? :-)
REALLY need to know the answer if anyone can help! Purchase pending on answer. :-) Check that web page picture in my earlier post and even if someone has one or two they want to sell, let me now! THANKS! Art
The rear crossbars from '03 and '04 Expeditions will work together because they slide and lock into the track. The front crossbar on the '03 and '04 fits into a "notch" and will only fit into one place. The '05 Expedition racks are made similar to the '03 and up Navigator, and all parts may interchange on these.
Look on Ebay at the roof racks on the Expy and Navigator and you will see how ther are made.
I just purchased a pair of crossbars from a 2002 Expedition, predicated on the seller's assurance that they were usable on the 2003. They are the same width - 43" - They will probably arrive in the next few days or so, so will let the group know. :-) - If not, or I cannot figure a way to MAKE them work will advise. :-)
My Build date on the Expedition is Fall 2002, so who knows? :-)))
Their part # 1L14-78551AA37-AAW
I understand the 2003 P/N is: 2L1Z7855107AAA (But I have NO proof of that and also suspect same physical parts may have different P/N's in different years?
DO I have a problem, do you think??????

Reason: addition
Well, it's a crapshoot without test fitting them before buying them.
I just put a Yakima roofrack system on my '03 because, honestly, I don't trust the factory crossbars for anything other than looks. I carry about $1500 worth of snowboards up there almost every weekend, so it was worth the ~$200 to ensure they were still up there when I got to the mountain. I was following a friend in his Explorer with 4 snowboards in a Yakima holder attached to the factory crossbards and at about 80MPH the rivets gave way on the front crossbar and he nearly lost the entire load. Luckily we had 2-way radios and I screamed at him to shut it down before the rear bar gave way.
If this is just for an antenna, depending on the size and shape of it, I think you will be fine with the factory stuff, if it fits. If your setup is gonna create a lot of air turbulance and pressure I would suggest a quality aftermarket roofrack setup. I prefer Yakima but Thule and others are probably just as good.
OK - Report Time - Those 2002 Crossbars (set) I bought fit PERFECTLY on my 2003 EB Expedition.
Now I have a nice FRONT CrossBar spare available (I had to buy the whole set) with the mounting Bolts if anyone has a dinged one or needs to get one - Let me know and make me an offer before I do the E-Bay thing or local paper. :-) Tom_in_FL
