well i have been having the usall ticking for a while now but recently something has changed. first in low rpms of 2-5th gear makes a slight wistling noise. 2nd i have noticed a loss in MPG. 3rd loss of coolant(this has been slow loss, not to the point where i see a pool of it anywhere or it dripping. i have replaced all the valves (PVC, crankcase) along with all the vacume hoses that i know of( all the hard plastic ones and there fittings) is there any more? if it is a cracked head its no biggy i can get a replacement for 25 bucks thanks for your opinion.
For the slight wistling noise and loss of MPG, I suspect you have a vacuum leak. The wistling will help you locate the leak. Use a piece (approx. 3 ft.) of fuel line or vacuum line and place one end in your ear and search for the wistling.
For the coolant loss, it could also be the heater core. Leave your heater controls in the hot defrost position. A leaking heater core will fog the windshield after you park your car.
well the found the coolant problem. And anyways repaced the heater core abotu a month and a half ago. The overflow tube came lose. AS for the wistling i geuss i going to have to have my friend sit in the truck and jack up the rear end, becasue i can only hear the wistling in low rpms 2nd and up. does any one have a vacume system chart that can show me the direct rout e and placement of all the tubes. right now i have only replace the few i know so it woulod be good to locate them all.
The vacuum leak sounds like it its load related rather than rpm related. Just jacking up your rear end might not create the vacuum/load needed. Are you sure it isn't transmission related? You can try to block the intake near the airfilter to create more vacuum.
